Kathmandu, Jan 12: The closed session of the special general convention (SGC) called by a faction of special convention supporters of the Nepali Congress began today, the second day of the event.
The SGC had begun at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu on Sunday. The inaugural event ran till late evening where a dozen of NC leaders from across the country gave their speeches, underscoring the need for change in NC’s work style and leadership.
The SGC publicity committee organized a press conference today and informed that the closed session of SGC began in a hall at Bhrikutimandap a while ago. NC leader from constituency no 5 of Kathmandu and 88-year-old general convention representative, Shyam Kumar Khadka, has been chairing the closed session.
Coordinator of the publicity committee, Subash Pokharel, informed that a legal practitioner and general convention representative, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, is scheduled to read out a work procedure prepared for the NC SGC.
Kaski President of NC, Koshor Datta Baral, will be conducting the closed session of the SGC.
General Secretaries duo Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma are presenting two separate proposals in the closed session. Their proposals will feature the issues including political review, party statute, statute amendment and organization reform of the party.
Various nine groups will discuss the proposals to be presented by the General Secretaries and conclusion reached accordingly, coordinator Pokharel added.
On the first day of the event, the leaders, including General Secretaries, reminded the changed national context in view of Gen Z movement that prods for the reform in party organization and work style.
As many 2,662 general convention representatives had registered their names in favour of SGC of the NC on Sunday alone.
