UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his hope that the indirect negotiations between Iran and the US would lead to decisive and constructive results.
UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters that they welcome the continuation of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US, which were previously hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, and the second round was held in Geneva, Switzerland.
He added that Guterres also hopes that these negotiations will ease regional tensions and prevent a larger crisis that could have far-reaching consequences, stressing the need to resolve conflicts in accordance with the UN Charter.
The indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington began on Feb. 6 in the Omani capital, Muscat, where the Iranian and American delegations exchanged a range of views, observations and approaches through Omani mediation, before agreeing to hold a second round of negotiations in Geneva.
