Kathmandu, May 17: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has congratulated and expressed deep respect to legendary climbers Kami Rita Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa for their historic achievements on the world’s highest mountain- Sagarmatha (popularly known as Mt Everest).

In a congratulatory message posted on his social media -‘X’ account today, PM Shah expressed his confidence that the climbers’ extraordinary success would further strengthen Nepal’s mountain tourism sector besides making it more reliable, prestigious and attractive on the global stage.
The PM believed that such notable feat would also contribute towards enhancing country’s international identity.

It may be noted that Kami Rita Sherpa successfully summited Sagarmatha a record 32nd time at 10:12am today, once again breaking his own world record for the highest number of ascents of the tallest mountain of the world.

Likewise, Lhakpa Sherpa, popularly known as the ‘Mountain Queen’ scaled Sagarmatha for the 11th time at 9:30 am today, setting a new record for the most Everest ascents by a female climber.

Celebrating the historic success of the legendary climbers, the Head of the Government wrote, “Sagarmatha, the highest mountain in the world, is not merely a geographical landmark; it stands as the highest emblem of Nepal’s dignity, courage, endurance and the Himalayan civilization.”
“Today Nepali climbers have once again scripted history on this glorious mountain,” he applauded.

Furthermore, the PM also acknowledged that such historic success can only be achieved through unwavering courage, strict self-discipline and sincere dedication to one’s work.

Extending heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the record-setting climbers, he said that he was honoured to share this proud moment with all Nepalis.
The PM, in his tweet, commended the ‘extraordinary’ and ‘unparalleled’ contribution of the Sherpa community to Nepal’s mountaineering history.
Hailing Sherpas as the ‘unsung heroes of the Himalayas’ who, he added, would worship the mountains like gods, accept risks as responsibilities and safely guide climbers from around the world to the summit of the mountains.

“Without their courage, knowledge and hard work, the glory of the Himalayas would remain incomplete,” he remarked. “I, on behalf of all Nepalis, extend heartfelt congratulations and the highest regard to Kami Rita Sherpa, Lhakpa Sherpa, the entire Sherpa community and those dedicated to the field of mountaineering.”
