Dang : A shortage of Anti-snake venom used to treat snakebite patients has been reported in hospitals in the district.
The snakebite treatment center at the Rapti Institute of Health Sciences (Ghorahi), Lamahi Hospital (Gadhawa) has run out of anti-snake venom, while its stock is about to run out at the Rapti Provincial Hospital (Tulsipur).
According to Dr Suresh Rasaili, Director of the Rapti Institute of Health Sciences, two snakebite patients are currently being treated at the Institute. However, he said that there is a difficulty in treatment due to the shortage of the necessary anti-snake venom. A request has been made to the Rapti Provincial Hospital for assistance to that end.
Likewise, Gadhawa Rural Municipality Chair Yamanarayan Pokharel said that the snake bite treatment center in Gadhawa has run out of anti-snake venom, and that there may be a problem as the stock is also low at Rapti Provincial Hospital.
The hospital has stated that even though a request has been sent to the Lumbini Provincial Supply Center, it has not been able to receive anti-snake venom in sufficient quantity. As snake bite incidents start increasing with the rainy season, the hospitals have demanded the concerned bodies to immediately provide the doze in sufficient quantity.
In the fiscal year 2082/83, seven people died due to snake bites in the district, while 39 recovered after treatment, according to the District Administration Office.
