Kathmandu: U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Megan Bouldin met with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal on Friday and expressed her deepest condolences for the lives lost and solidarity with all those affected by Nepal’s devastating floods.
During the meeting, Bouldin thanked the Government of Nepal for its continued efforts to locate missing U.S. citizens and other victims as search-and-rescue operations continue across the affected areas.
The United States said it is working closely with Nepal in the ongoing disaster response, with the safety and security of U.S. citizens remaining its highest priority. The U.S. Embassy has also increased consular support to assist families seeking information about their missing loved ones.
At the same time, U.S. assistance is supporting Nepal-led disaster response efforts in affected communities across the country.
According to the U.S. Embassy, the United States has mobilized more than $4 million in humanitarian assistance and support for Nepal. The assistance includes food and emergency relief supplies, logistics and equipment, specialized disaster victim recovery resources, and FBI forensic experts working alongside Nepal Police to help identify victims and provide answers to affected families.
The United States has also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Nepal as the country assesses the scale of damage, displacement and humanitarian needs caused by the disaster.
The U.S. Embassy said it will continue to stand with Nepal and support its recovery and humanitarian response in the days ahead.
