Kathmandu, Sept 17: As many as 191 vehicles operated by nine companies affiliated with the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) were damaged in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river corridor floods on August 26, with 344 people reported missing.
FNNTE General Secretary Deknath Gautam said the missing included drivers, helpers and passengers travelling in the affected vehicles.
According to the federation, 19 buses, one minitruck, two jeeps and four containers operated by Nepal Araniko Transport Service Pvt. Ltd. were damaged, with 50 people missing. Similarly, 19 buses operated by Namaste Pasang Lhamu Transport Pvt. Ltd. in Balaju were damaged, with 21 people missing.
Two drivers went missing after two containers operated by Bhaktapur New Vision Transport Pvt. Ltd. were washed away. Likewise, 10 drivers went missing after four trucks, 16 containers and one Sumo jeep operated by Himalayan Transport Company were washed away and damaged.
Seven tippers, 22 containers, 23 trucks and one trailer operated by the Nepal Tipper and Truck Entrepreneurs Committee were damaged, leaving 45 drivers missing.
Similarly, 59 trucks and containers operated by Narayani Transport Entrepreneurs Company Pvt. Ltd. were damaged, with 70 people missing. Nine microbuses operated by Nepal Micro Company were also damaged.
One driver and 22 passengers went missing after a bus operated by Prithvi Highway Transport Operator Company was swept away by the floods.
Likewise, Gautam said one driver and 25 pilgrims went missing after a bus operated by Dhading Mandali Transport Pvt. Ltd. was damaged in the floods.
