Lumbini, Dec 2: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba asserted that the party would be stronger if unity was maintained among the party leaders and cadres. Inaugurating the NC Lumbini Province Committee’s first conference in Butwal on Saturday, President Deuba expressed his confidence that the provincial conference would further strengthen the party. Deuba, also the former Prime Minister, reiterated, “NC’s provincial conference would further strengthen the party. Internal democracy would be further strengthened. I urge you to unite the party. We will only be strong if the party is stronger” There are over 750 representatives from all seven provinces in the conference, informed NC Lumbini Province President Amar Singh Pun.
Also, the provincial national convention representatives of 52 constituencies, provincial regional president, district presidents and chairperson of the NC’s sister and well wisher organizations among others were also taking part in the conference. In the inaugural, the Party President appealed to all the leaders and cadres to make resolution from Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, to further unite and strengthen the party. NC should contest upcoming election alone: General Secretary Thapa Similarly, NC General-Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa lamented that although there were honest and diligent people within the NC, the NC could not capitalize them while going for the poll last year. Thapa, also the former minister, opined that the NC should contest the upcoming election alone even if it was to lose. Stating that the provincial structure was taxing economically, he, viewed it should be made effective to deliver services at a low cost.
Be wary about voices in favor of monarchy: General Secretary Sharma Likewise, party’s another General-Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma urged the party leaders and cadres to be aware at this point of time about the voices that were coming out in favor of monarchy. Sharma argued that it was the responsibility of the society to comparatively study and review the works delivered by the then royal institutions and current developmental states. Stating that everyone’s commitment was needed to make the NC strong, he requested all party leaders and cadres to take resolution from the Lumbini for nation-building. Prepare for NC to contest upcoming election alone: Leader Koirala Also speaking at the conference, leader Dr Shekhar Koirala viewed that the NC should be united to contest upcoming election alone from ward to general election. He urged all the leaders and cadres to start preparation for this.
He observed that if only the NC would change, the country could witness the wind of changes. Expressing concern over the increasing cases of corruption and impunity, he alerted that his party should not take a rest until good-governance and transparency were maintained. Moreover, NC central member Chandra Bhandari said that the neither any organization nor the country would be built by factionalism. He urged the party leadership to rise above the factional politics and work in the interest of party organization and country. Political report, organizational report, economic report among others will be presented during the closing session of the conference, it was shared. There will be broader discussion on the party’s performances as well as the state of the implementation of the federal democratic republic.
