Kathmandu, Dec 3: “It is by standing up for the rights of girls and women that we truly measure up as men,” wrote Desmond Tutu in 2012 in a call for men and boys to take a stand against child marriage.

As the global 16 days of activism against gender-based violence is being observed, the U.S. Embassy in Nepal and UNiTE Campaign (UN Women) have come together for the campaign. As part of this campaign, they have invited people to join the 16 days initiative in helping to amplify this powerful message, ‘In our world, there is #NoExcuse for gender-based violence, and we must invest to prevent violence against women and girls.’

“Stand with us, share crucial knowledge and resources, and help put an end to gender-based violence! #NoExcuse.”

The global 16 days of activism against gender-based violence is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls. Every year, it runs from 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10th December (Human Rights Day).

The UNITE to End Violence against Women initiative is a multiyear effort to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world. Launched in 2008 under the leadership of the UN Secretary General, the initiative was created to support the civil society led by 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign in the globe.
