Kathmandu, Feb 7: The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), a multistep assessment required for medical licensure in the United States, has canceled its examination center in Nepal.
A notice issued by USMLE has cited irregularities in the examination in Nepal and the participation of candidates in an unusual manner as a reason.
Investigations were carried out into the reason behind the fact that most of the examinees taking tests in the center got good marks, and irregularities were found, according to the notice. USMLE is a test required for Nepali doctors to get a licence to work in the US.
With the cancellation of USMLE’s center in Nepal, aspiring Nepali doctors will face problems. Run by the American Federation of State Medical Boards and the National Board of Medical Examiners, for more than 30 years, the USMLE has been ensuring that physicians licensed to practice medicine in the United States have the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to care for patients safely and effectively.
