Kathmandu, April 29: Electrifying public transport in Nepal. A diverse array of stakeholders such as EV operators, suppliers, policymakers and development partners came together attending a workshop that discussed the importance of the issue. The European Union in Nepal-funded project-SOLUTIONS plus–sets up a global platform for shared public and commercial e-mobility solutions, and Nepal is a part of it.
While exploring the potential of local industries in electric vehicle manufacturing, challenges like technical standards, cost-effectiveness, institutional and legal constraints of the process were discussed and addressed in a panel discussion as part of the workshop.
Representatives from GIZ Nepal, GGGI, ADB, World Bank Nepal and JICA Nepal Office-JICA, further showcased their e-mobility initiatives for public transport in Nepal with support of MoPIT and the Government of Nepal. The participants stressed the social, environmental, economic and health related advantages and importance of EVs. After the workshop, Sajha Yatayat invited the guests for a test drive in their new e-busses.
The organisers have offered thanks to the Wuppertal Institute, Sajha Yatayat, the Urban Living Lab Center, UEMI, Clean AIR Asia and Danmarks Tekniske Universitet – DTU for attending the event.
