Kathmandu, Aug 20: Gaijatra, a festival traditionally dedicated to commemorating loved ones, serves as a platform for satire and parody. But for sexual and gender minorities, it represents a moment to express solidarity with the community.
Irrespective of the varied meanings associated with it, the festival is observed across Nepal offering an opportunity for all Nepalis to come together, recognising and celebrating rich diversity and culture of the country.
Today, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Jason Meeks and the U.S. Embassy team joined the 21st pride parade and Gaijatra celebration organised by the Blue Diamond Society, Nepal’s SGM organisation.
The U.S. Embassy has expressed its continued support for Nepal’s LGBTQIA+ community in their fight against discrimination and violence, according to the Embassy.
