Kathmandu, Sept 3: In a break of the usual practice, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) will not issue fresh bank notes for upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals this year.
The central bank will not issue new currency notes for the festivals, confirmed the bank’s assistant spokesperson, Dr Dilliram Pokharel. The bank has cited expenditure problems in issuing new bank notes for this.
Instead, good-conditioned old notes in the denominations of Rs 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 will be distributed, he added. New bank notes have been issued for up to Rs 18,500 per person. Currently, over Rs 6.6 trillion worth of currency notes are in circulation in the Nepali market.
