Kathmandu, Sept 21: The United States has announced a $33 million donation to support school meals in Nepal.
The funding will be implemented through the U.S. Department of Agriculture in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
This five-year initiative aims to support the National Mid-day Meal Programme, and improve student enrollment, attendance, literacy, and nutrition. It is expected to benefit over 120,000 children in Nepal’s rural districts.
As part of the project, WFP will provide daily hot meals to nearly 121,792 pre-primary and primary school children each year in 1,039 schools in Bajhang, Bajura and Darchula Districts of Sudurpaschim Province.
