Lumbini, Sept 26: Federalism Enablement and National Concerns Committee of the National Assembly enquired about the master plan implementation progress of Lumbini Development Trust as well as held discussion with stakeholders.

The Committee discussed about Lumbini Master Plan Implementation run by the government as the national pride project.

Committee President Sonam Geljen Sherpa said there is lack of budget for implementation of Lumbini Master Plan and necessary initiative is required for the amendment to Lumbini Development Trust Act, 2042, in order to carry out activities of Greater Lumbini Area.

Their attention was drawn towards challenges seen in implementation of master plan of Lumbini, activities carried out against master plan and demands of locals, he added.

President Sherpa laid emphasis that all should fulfill their own responsibilities as Lumbini and Sagarmatha are Nepal’s identity.

Similarly, Vice-Chairperson of Lumbini Development Trust, Dr Lharkyal Lama, shared that problems have surfaced to complete projects after federal government made delay to send budget for the implementation of Lumbini Master Plan.

He mentioned though office-bearers of the Trust have been involved to implement the master plan as well as to increase spiritual activities in Lumbini, they have not been successful due to Trust’s act.

Likewise, Member-Secretary of the Trust, Sanu Raja Shakya, said around 85 per cent activities of the master plan have been completed but problems have surfaced in implementation in lack of budget.

Deputy-Mayor of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, Kalpana Harijan, suggested amending the act in order to ensure the representation of locals, and the province and federal lawmakers as per the demand of the locals.
