Kathmandu, Oct 1: Road transport to the Kathmandu Valley has been eased to some extent with the different entry points to the Valley becoming operational. The roads leading to the Valley were closed due to flood and landslide following the incessant rains some days back.

Vehicular traffic to and from the Valley has been opened on the Tribhuvan highway and the Prithvi highway after clearing the landslide debris from the road at Jhyaplekhola in Dhading.

Superintendent of Police at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office, Rabin Karki, said that vehicles exiting the Valley via Sanga Bhanjyang in the east are operating up to Chautara via the Araniko highway and up to Bhakunde Besi via the BP highway.

According to him, although the transit point towards Nuwakot is opened, there is some difficulty for operation of heavy vehicles via that route.

However, the road leading out of the Valley via Dakshinkali has not come into operation.

Police said it will take some time to fully open the roads for vehicular traffic in places where the RCC bridges along the roadway have been washed away and the large stretches of the road have been eroded or swept away by floods and landslides.

The landslides and flooding triggered by the incessant rainfall on September 27 and 28 had damaged more than 50 roadways at over 100 places in different parts of the country. Twenty big and small bridges were swept away.

Security personnel of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are working day and night to take the passengers stranded due to the blockage of the roads to their destinations.
