Kathmandu, Oct 2: More than eight lakh foreign tourists have entered Nepal in nine months of 2024. According to the statistics of the Nepal Tourism Board, 816,339 tourists have visited Nepal from January to September this year.

According to the director of the board, Maniraj Lamichhane, overall tourist arrivals have increased by six percent compared to 2023 and four percent compared to 2019 respectively.  However, compared to the month of August, the number of tourists coming to Nepal from India has decreased in September, while the number of tourists coming from China has increased.

It is guessed that the number of Indian tourists may have decreased due to the monsoon.

He said that tourists coming from American and European countries have increased significantly. In September, 22,984 tourists from India and 25,832 tourists came to Nepal in August.

Director Lamichhane further informed that 8,042 tourists came from China in September and 6,614 tourists in August. In August 5,000 tourists entered Nepal while 10,084 in September from America. Similarly, 4,915 tourists from Sri Lanka came to Nepal in September and 4,851 tourists in August.

According to the board, 72,719 tourists came to Nepal last August alone. According to the board, 91,012 tourists visited Nepal in September 2023, while 58,314 in the same period of 2022.
