KATHMANDU: The Labour Court has decided that the non-grade employees of Nepal Telecom should be employed based on a contract in accordance with the law.

The joint bench of Labor Court chair Basudev Acharya and member Nisha Baniya decided that the unranked employees working for Nepal Telecom should be employed by providing them with perks and benefits as per the law.

The Court has referred to Labor Act 2074, Section 178(2) which says that the employment contract of such types of employees should be completed concluded within three months.

There are a large number of unranked employees who have been working as gardeners, security guards and kitchen workers in Telecom for more than 15 years without a contract. Among them, 21 employees filed a complaint at the labor office stating that they have not been given minimum service, facilities, and salary for a long time and denied a letter of appointment.

It may be noted that the Labor Office had decided that perks should be provided to the employees according to the law. The Labor Court upheld the decision of the Labor Office.
