Udayapur (Gaighat), Jan 21: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has pledged to come up with temporary measures along with long-term plans to immediately intervene in controlling erosion from the Saptakoshi River.
He said this during his inspection to the area eroded by the river at Belaka Municipality in Udaypur today. The Home Minister said that the collaboration from the neighboring India will be sought to address the problem sustainably.
He visited Sisauli, the area near the Saptakoshi Bridge site and the Kothu area. As he said, the river flow will be controlled by creating a temporary embankment along a three-kilometer area beginning from Belaka-based Saptakoshi Bridge. Likewise, he also talked about a plan for long-terms measures along an 11-kilomter area.
During the inspection, he was accompanied by NC leader and lawmaker from the Udaypur electoral constituency 1, Dr Narayan Khadka.
The erosion by the Saptakoshi River each year is constant here and as a result, hundreds of families have been already displaced, according to Municipality Mayor Ashok Karki. “We have drawn the Minister’s attention to the urgency to take measures even though temporarily in the high risk three kilometers oaf area.”
After here, the Minister visited the area affected by the Triyuga River in the district, it is said.
