Budget spending of provinces stands at 16 per cent in six months

Kathmandu : The budget expenditure of the provinces in six months of the current fiscal year 2024/25 is disappointing. As per the half-yearly review report released by the government, budget expenditure of the provinces is only 16.18 per cent of the annual target so far.

The province governments had brought the budget of total Rs 278.69 billion in the current fiscal year, they have spent only Rs 45.9 billion till the January 13, 2025. Madhes Province had brought the budget of Rs 43.89 billion for the current fiscal year. It has spent only Rs 2.46 million till the six months of the current fiscal year. This is 5.61 per cent of the total budget.

Similarly, Sudurpaschim Province has spent 14.82 per cent of the total budget till six months of the current fiscal year. The province had brought the budget of Rs 31.62 billion for the current fiscal year and it had spent only Rs 4.68 billion during the period. Likewise, Karnali Province witnessed 15.14 per cent expenditure. It spent Rs 4.75 billion in six months of the current fiscal year. The Province had brought a budget of Rs 31.41 billion for the current fiscal year.

Lumbini Province brought an annual budget of Rs 38.97 billion for the current fiscal year. It spent Rs 7.53 billion till six months of the fiscal year 2024/25, which is 19.36 per cent. Similarly, Gandaki Province has spent 19.36 per cent of its total budget during the period. Out of Rs 32.97 billion budget, only Rs 6.38 billion has been spent in six months.

Bagmati Province had brought the big size of budget for the current fiscal year as compared to other provinces. It had introduced the budget of Rs 64.54 billion. The Province spent Rs 10.29 billion (16.27 per cent) during the period.

Likewise, Koshi Province had unveiled the budget of RS 35.27 billion for the FY 2024/25. It spent 24.85 per cent of the total budget during the period which stood at 24.85 per cent.
