Birgunj (Parsa), Feb 15: With the sudden rise in tigers in the collaborative forest of the district, the District Forest Office, Parsa has started using ‘camera trapping’ to monitor the movement of the wild animals.
Division Forest Officer Manjur Ahmed of the Office shared that camera traps have been set up at 12 different locations to count tigers and monitoring their activities in the collaborative forest of the district.

The camera installation is expected to be useful for studying and researching the activities of wild animals including tigers and leopards in the community forests. Although camera trapping is common in national parks this is the first time that it has been installed in the collaborative forests in the district.

Accordingly, three cameras have been installed in the forest areas falling under the Sabiya, Badnihar and Manava Subdivision Offices. Similarly, one camera each in Rangpur and Bhatauda and one more in other location are being installed.

The camera trap is expected to capture the activities of wild animals including tigers 24 hours a day. The camera has the capacity to capture 16 GP images per day.

Purushottam Prasad Patel, Forester of Rangpur Subdivision Office, expressed confidence that the camera trapping will also help in analyzing the activities of tigers, leopards and other animals.

The cameras have been installed with the support of World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
