Kathmandu : With a stage all set to welcome a new prime minister next day after the successful March 5 House of Representatives election, Prime Minister Sushila Karki has given a farewell statement on Thursday evening.

She said she accomplished her duty of holding the HoR election. She expressed satisfaction with the accomplishment and hope for better future.
“As I assumed the office of Prime Minister six months back, a kind of fear and uncertainty had prevailed. But it has now changed into satisfaction,” she said in the address, adding that she worked with utmost confidence to lift the country out of crisis.
She further expressed much hope with the people-elected government.

PM Karki paid tribute to those who lost lives during the last September uprising and wished speedy recovery to those injured during the movement. The PM encouraged the families of those losing relatives not to be perturbed.

She expressed sadness over huge damage incurred in the vandalism and arson. “I urge all sides to be united again and rise for reconstruction and nation building,” she mentioned. It was an unimaginable time- 76 persons lost lives, over 2,600 became injured and property worth Rs 85 billion perished.
Amidst such situation, she had to prepare atmosphere for election by taking confidence of parties, boosting morale of security agencies and making administration dynamic, according to her.

Continuous efforts were made to hold the election in a free and fair manner, so utmost coordination was made with Election Commission. The election was held on the stipulated date, March 5, the PM explained. In her farewell statement, the PM thanked all sides- Election Commission, government employees, Nepali Army, Chief of Army Staff, police persons, civil society, and political parties, among others who extended support to realize the mission of March 5 election.

PM Karki said that this HoR election conducted amid special context has established several new and positive milestones and added that our democracy could be made further cultured and prosperous if such milestones were maintained in future elections too.

This election has taught a vital lesson that there is always the people’s support to work for the national interests, she added. “We once again have proved that Nepalis can unite in the time of crisis. And, our national capacity has not become weak and we can resolve the issues on our own,” according to PM Karki.
She reiterated that the March 5 election has offered a clear verdict for the change as per the spirit and aspiration of the Gen-Z Movement, and has also cleared the wrong narrative that majority of a political party is not likely in the election.

PM Karki expressed the confidence that the upcoming new government to be formed under the leadership of a youth politician should work to end corruption, ensure good governance, create jobs in the country and offer economic development and social justice. She claimed that her government had prepared some foundation to translate the aspirations of the Gen-Z movement into reality.

Karki stated that the government had decided to make the report public prepared by the commission formed to probe in vandalism, violence and looting occurred during the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, 2026. “The upcoming government shall take necessary steps regarding the recommendations and suggestions after a thorough study of the report,” PM Karki mentioned.

In her farewell statement, Karki shared key efforts of her government taken to maintain transparency and uphold public aspirations. PM Karki has suggested that all institutions and stakeholders in the country should move ahead by abiding by their respective constitutional scopes, adding that such move would ensure a robust foundation of good governance. She said that she was desperate to welcome the new government as the fresh verdict was achieved through the election and the task of the interim government was over.
