Dolakha: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said on Saturday that the Bill on Social Media will be passed with revisions and stated that true journalists should not fear this.
Inaugurating the Jiri Visit Year-2025, Minister Gurung argued that the bill is aimed at ending ill trends in social sites and added that active journalists will not be impacted by the provisions.

Sharing that several feedbacks were received on the bill, Minister Gurung mentioned that the bill would be passed with revisions. “There have been massive debates about the bill. Several feedbacks have also been received. So, it will not be passed as it is. We will pass it with revision based on the feedback,” Communications Minister Gurung clarified.

On a separate context, Minister Gurung said the government should not run industries and businesses rather it was a part of the private sector and added that the government will facilitate the private sector with policy frameworks. Minister Gurung urged one and all to unite for the development of Jiri area by doing away with the political biases.

Former minister Parbat Gurung, Bagmati Province Assembly Members Bharat Bahadur KC and Urminal Sunuwar, Mayor of Jiri Municipality Mitra Jirel, Chair of Melung Rural Municipality Hira Thokar and other speakers expressed their views at the event.

Meanwhile, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gurung said the constitution will be amended based on political consensus among the political parties.

Speaking at a news conference organized by CPN (UML) in Dolkhara district headquarters on Saturday morning, Minister Gurung also said that the ordinances introduced by the government will be passed on the basis of political consensus.
