Kathmandu, March 10: The 11th Nepal Geological Congress organized by Nepal Geological Society, has kicked off in Kathmandu from today. President Ramchandra Paudel inaugurated the two-day congress.
Discussion would be held among geologists of various countries of the world regarding earth’s safety in the congress, it is said.
The conference was organized with an objective of highlighting the role of geology in climate change adaptation, use of natural resources and geo-risk management and exchanging new researches, technologies and experiences of geology sector.
Society Chairperson Churna Bahadur Wali shared that the congress would help exchange knowledge about climate change impacts, natural resources management and disaster management.
“The adverse impact of climate change has been increasing. There will be collaboration for identifying the problems and operation of climate adaptation and reduction programme to resolve the problems,” he added.
Geologists of Nepal, India, China, USA, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh and Pakistan have been participating in the congress.
More than 100 working papers on geology of the Himalayan region would be presented and extensive discussion would be held on geological studies and research, said Coordinator of the Congress, Professor Khum Narayan Poudel. The Congress is organized in every two years.
