Kathmandu– In a significant step toward enhancing disaster response and humanitarian coordination, U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Dean Richard Thompson, delivered opening remarks at the Tempest Express 40 & Multinational Force SOP Workshop, hosted by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in Nepal. The event convened 88 military and civil society leaders from 14 nations to improve disaster response coordination.
The two-day Multinational Force SOP Workshop focused on humanitarian principles and civil-military cooperation, while the eight-day Tempest Express 40 workshop explored Nepal’s disaster management strategies, emergency response operations, and resilience-building initiatives.
Ambassador Thompson highlighted the United States’ dedication to being a disaster preparedness partner rather than just a crisis responder. He stressed the importance of helping nations become more self-reliant in safeguarding lives, communities, and economies, reducing dependency on international aid, and fostering a more resilient future.
The United States is honored to collaborate with Nepal and other countries to strengthen disaster preparedness efforts and build safer, more resilient communities worldwide.
