Kathmandu, March 27: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has asserted that all political parties were united to provide justice to the victims of armed conflict.
At a national conference on transitional justice organized by armed conflict victim related organisations including the International Commission of Jurists here today, NC President Deuba shared all the political parties had stood together to deliver justice as per the sentiments of comprehensive peace accord.

The former Prime Minister viewed, “We are clear on the need of justice to conflict victims as per CPA.” He expressed the belief that conflict victims would get justice as the government had forwarded recommendation process for the selection of office-bearers in commissions related to transitional justice.
Similarly, Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ argued that though there is difference among all parties over other issues in principle, all parties are united on the issue of taking the peace process to a logical conclusion.

Though issues were raised to give amnesty by forgetting the conflict-era incidents, the peace process could not be considered successful until the conflict victims realized justice, he mentioned. Likewise, former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha stated that though the country witnessed a political change, it was delayed much to provide justice to the victims as per CPA.

Founder Chairperson of Conflict Victims’ Common Platform, Suman Adhikari, pointed out that all political parties should pay attention to conclude activities related to the peace process and demanded transparent and impartial process for the selection of office-bearers in the transitional justice related commissions.

Senior legal advisor of the International Commission of Jurists, Mandira Sharma, laid emphasis on the need of providing justice to the victims by forming reliable commission. A total of 160 conflict victims across the country have been participating in the conference.
