Siraha, April 1: Coordination and cooperation among three-tiers of government has been stressed for the conservation of Chure region, arguing that the Madhesh districts in Chure region were facing increasing adverse impacts of degradation.
During a dialogue organized by the Province Ministry of Forest and Environment focusing ‘Chure’s soil and water’ at Lahan on Monday, the speakers viewed once all sides concerns including all layers of government did not forward activities in unison, the Chure’s degradation could not curbed.
Ministry Secretary Uddhav Bahadur Ghimire viewed the Chure region is linked to livelihood in Madhesh, so we have no option but to take proper initiative for its conservation. He suggested the leading roles of chiefs at local levels to take all sides together in the campaign for Chure conservation.
Province Forest Director in Madhesh, Jagannath Prasad Jaiswal, reminded that illegal exploitation of natural resources and deforestation were major causes behind depleting of groundwater. It would be further worsened if the water recharge schemes were delayed, he warned.
Chief of the Division Forest Office in Dhanusha, Binod Singh, presented the status of the activities launched so far for Chure conservation.
The programme was attended by chief of division forest offices (Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Udayapur districts), representatives of community forest users’ groups, and people’s representatives from local levels, among others.
