Kathmandu : The Kathmandu Municipal Corporation (KMC) has initiated spreading awareness about dengue in schools across the metropolis as a preventive measure.
The Health Department under the KMC launched the awareness drive against the mosquito-borne infection among the students of grade 8 and 9 in 32 community schools in the Metropolis, according to Rishi Prasad Bhusal, Focal Person for the KMC’s Epidemic Prevention and Control Programme in the KMC.
The drive aims to sensitize the community about the infection by educating students about it, said Bhusal. The drive has been already carried out in Shivapuri Secondary School at Maharajgunj of ward no 3.
The risk of dengue outbreak increases with the onset of monsoon. Against this backdrop, the KMC launched the drive in a bid to educate the students and thereby the community about dengue’s prevention, control and treatment.
The KMC seeks to sensitize at least 3,200 students and mobilize them as a ‘messengers’ to aware their family and community against the infection.
Sita Thapa, member of ward no 3, shared that they have a plan to organize discussions and interactions on dengue and prevention practices at community level. ‘Search Larvae and Destroy’ campaign will be subsequently implemented, she informed.
The Department urges precaution against the infection as it has been raining for some days and the water-holding places and containers could be infested with the larvae of the mosquitoes that spread dengue.B
