Patan : Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that planning should be charted out by considering the aspirations of all sides. Addressing a programme organized by the NC’s Economic Policy and Planning Department on the economic policies adopted by the recently announced upcoming fiscal year’s annual budget, Deuba underscored the need for debates on NC’s economic policies and the ways to achieve the nation’s economic development.
Saying that BP Koirala used to talk about rural development, Deuba stated that the rural areas in the country are deserted due to outmigration. “Most of the people have migrated to Tarai from hills. Attention should be given to control the remaining ones in rural areas,” Deuba stated calling for reducing rural to urban migration in the country.
Deuba said that the climate change impacts should be considered while working as the sea levels have risen and the mountains have become bare due to the climate change impacts. Nepal has suffered the worst form of the climate change impacts and it should be saved from the climate change impacts and the voices should be raised regarding this issue globally, he added.
NC leaders Bimalendra Nidhi and Mahalaxmi Upadhyay said that NC should pay more attention for the promotion of agriculture-based enterprises. NC central committee member and Chief of the Department, Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokhrel, said some achievements could be obtained regarding climate change induced risk reduction from the upcoming fiscal year’s budget if the budget was fully implemented.
Former vice-chairs of National Planning Commission Dr Prithvi Raj Ligal and Jagdish Chandra Pokhrel said fiscal discipline should be maintained in the country and added that the budget should create employment opportunities.
