Myagdi (Beni), July 25: A new trekking trail extending to the base camp of the seventh highest mountain in the world -Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167 metres) has been built at Mudi of Dhaulagiri rural municipality-4 in Myagdi district.

The Dhaulagiri rural municipality constructed the trail, stretching from Italy Base Camp at Mudi to the Swiss Base Camp site via Japanese Camp site, at the cost of Rs 5.4 million provided by the federal government in the last fiscal year 2024/25.

Local community also contributed labour worth Rs 500,000 for the construction of 6.5-kilometres trail, informed Kul Bahadur Gharti, Secretary of the Dhaulagiri Mountain Trekking Trail Construction Users Committee.

Gharti shared that the trail passes through a high-risk area in between the Swiss Camp site to the Japanese Camp site due to glacial activities.

Furthermore, two wooden traditional resting places and two bridges along with the trail.
He added that the trail features information boards in four places, signboards in five places to facilitate the trekkers. These infrastructures are put in place to facilitate access to the base camp of Mt Dhaulagiri, he explained.

Similarly, around one-kilometre of stone-paved stair is also built along the trail, added Janak Dhanuk, Sub-Engineer in the rural municipality. According to him, the narrow winding paths have been expanded for improved accessibility.

Dhaulagiri rural municipality Chairperson Prem Prasad Pun shared that the rural municipality has prioritized widening the narrow paths along the cliffs and forest areas and make the trekking trail safe.
