Kathmandu, July 25: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the primary objective of the federal democratic republic system is to listen to the voices of the people, address their aspirations, and build a prosperous nation grounded in good governance and economic development.

Addressing a programme organized in Kathmandu today to mark the 251st birth anniversary of national luminary Bheemsen Thapa, the Head of State stated, “Within this system, we will be able to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to us by our ancestors and by history.” He urged all stakeholders to remain focused on this shared national goal.

Acknowledging Nepal’s complex historical journey, President Paudel viewed, “Our past was marked by undesirable consequences, but we are now committed to building an inclusive, open, and progressive society. Therefore, there is no reason to be disheartened.”

The President paid tribute to the sacrifices, dedication, and visionary leadership that laid the foundation for the nation’s current state. He described Bheemsen Thapa as a towering statesman in Nepal’s history who devoted his life to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence. He also highlighted Thapa’s significant role in resisting colonial imperialism and defending national dignity.
“Nepal’s independence remained intact because of Bheemsen Thapa’s patriotism, administrative competence, and far-sighted political vision,” the President added.

He praised Thapa’s enduring contributions across various sectors including economic development, administration, military affairs, and social reform and said that his legacy continues to serve the national interest. “These contributions affirm that Bheemsen Thapa assumes and deserves a highly respected position in the history of Nepal,” he added.

On the occasion, President Paudel presented the prestigious Bheemsen Thapa Award for this year to veteran diplomat Dr Bhekh Bahadur Thapa.-
