KATHMANDU — Members of Nepal’s Gen Z generation staged demonstrations at Maitighar on Monday morning, protesting against corruption, political privilege, and the government’s moves to restrict social media.
Carrying placards and dressed in school and college uniforms, the young demonstrators voiced frustration over widening inequality fueled by illicit wealth and entrenched political favoritism. The protest gained momentum following viral discussions on TikTok and Reddit about “nepo kids,” highlighting the lavish lifestyles of politicians’ children.
Protesters argued that corruption has deepened the economic divide between ordinary citizens and political families, sparking resentment among the youth. What began as an online movement has now spilled into the streets, signaling growing discontent among Nepal’s younger generation.
