Kaski, Oct 4: The District Administration Office, Kaski has issued a warning to tourists, advising them not to embark on treks in the high Himalayan regions due to the potential for snowfall and heavy rainfall.

This appeal was made in light of the forecast predicting medium to heavy rainfall across the country and specifically in Gandaki Province from today until October 6, which increases the chances of snowfall. Assistant Chief District Officer Shiv Prasad Lamsal mentioned that public notices have been disseminated to caution trekkers against visiting renowned locations such as the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Mardi Himal Base Camp, Model Machhapuchhre Trek, Kapuche Trek, and Khumal. He remarked, “There is a possibility of snowfall in the high Himalayan regions. Therefore, we urge everyone not to venture into any trekking areas.” In previous years, the Dashain holidays typically saw a surge of trekkers in these areas.

However, this year, the tourism sector has been impacted following the administration’s request for individuals to refrain from trekking due to the anticipated heavy rain and snowfall. During the Dashain and Tihar holidays, hotels and restaurants along the trekking routes were usually bustling with tourists. Additionally, the administration has advised the public to remain vigilant as disasters such as floods, landslides, submersion, and snowfall may occur during the rainy season, and to reach out to the appropriate local authorities, elected representatives, nearby police units, or security agencies in case of any incidents.
