Kathmandu, Nov 8: President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal has stressed that the government should take special initiative to boost the morale of the private sector.

Speaking at ‘National Macroeconomic Debate 2.0’ program organized by the FNCCI here today, Dhakal said that the private sector contributes 81 per cent to the country’s economy and hence it was necessary for the state to recognize the contribution of the private sector and pass a proposal of public importance from the Council of Ministers to make the general public aware of its contribution.

He said that at a time when the government is trying to reduce corruption in the country and establish good governance in line with the Gen-Z movement and demands of the young generation, the private sector is also trying to revive itself from the ruins of the arson that took place during the movement.

According to a preliminary survey conducted by the Federation, physical damage worth Rs 48 billion was caused and the private sector suffered a loss of about Rs 88 billion as a result.

He said that if strictest possible action is not taken against those who committed arson, vandalism, and looting during the movement, impunity will flourish, and emphasized that the guilty should not be encouraged under any pretext.

Referring to the Nepal Development Public Limited (NDP) Company established at the initiative of the FNCCI with the involvement of members of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, and Non-Resident Nepali Association and other businesspersons, he said the NDP was aimed at break the negative narrative that nothing happens in Nepal and nothing can be done with Nepal’s investment. “This company will invest in large infrastructure projects by collecting internal capital scattered across the country. This will increase investor confidence and send a message that large projects can be undertaken through the mobilization of domestic capital,” he said.
