Kathmandu : An export fair has kicked off at Chhaya Centre of Thamel, Kathmandu on Sunday, marking the 10th Export Day. The two-day fair is jointly organized by Nepal Export Council Project, Trade and Export Promotion Centre and Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal with an objective to promote varieties of exports.
In the inaugural of the fair, Executive Director of Centre, Sharad Bikram Rana, said the Council had played a vital role in exporting Nepali products to the international markets. He said the Centre has been working to resolve the problems in the process of exporting Nepali goods abroad. Likewise, Federation’s Senior Vice-President Rabindra Shakya, shared that Federation has been collaborating with the Council to export Nepali handicrafts.
Council’s Senior Vice-President Dr Ramsharan Thapaliya expressed that the entrepreneurs were suffering due to the suspension of the cash subsidy provided by the government on export-oriented goods that could fetch foreign currency. He insisted that the government’s decision to stop cash subsidy on such goods should be immediately reconsidered.
Secretary-General of the Council, Hari Dhakal, informed that Nepali niche products such as felt, handicrafts, metal ornaments, garments made from Nepali textile- dhaka- and woolen handmade products are showcased in 20 stalls in the fair. The exhibition also features display and sales of locally produced goods and discussions with foreign entrepreneurs, he added.
According to the statistics, goods worth Rs 277 billion were exported to various countries in the fiscal year, 2024/25. Goods worth Rs 93.5 billion have already been exported in the last four months of the ongoing fiscal year, 2025/26.
