Dharan, Feb 3: Samir Alam of Bhokaraha Narsingh Rural Municipality–2, which falls under Sunsari electoral constituency–4, said that most families in the area depend on maize, other crops, and paddy farming for their livelihood.

Farmers in the region are facing shortages of fertilizers, seeds, and irrigation facilities, which has adversely affected agricultural production. Due to the lack of proper transportation facilities, they also struggle to take their produce to the market.

According to locals, election candidates who prioritize agriculture, road infrastructure, and employment opportunities are preferred to represent them in the federal parliament. As the March 5 election approaches, voters in the area have identified agriculture, infrastructure development, and job creation as their key agenda.

Raju Mandal of Narsingh Rural Municipality–3 said that due to the lack of employment opportunities, youths are compelled to go abroad in search of work. “We want our candidates to understand our concerns and take initiatives to address them through effective policy interventions,” he said.
He added that the harsh reality is that government facilities announced for farmers rarely reach the intended beneficiaries.

Similarly, 58-year-old Bihariram Chamar of Bhokaraha–6 lamented that despite their continued trust in political parties, the expected development has yet to reach their village. “Our priorities are agriculture, road development, and improved access to basic services,” he said, adding that elected representatives should address these issues through concrete policy measures once they reach parliament.

There are a total of 580,945 voters in the districts comprising 12 local levels. Among them, 294,252 are makes, 286,691 are females and two are from gender and sexual minorities. The district having four electoral constituencies have a total of 167 voting stations and 624 polling centers, according to Election Office, Sunsari Chief Krishna Paudel.
