Kathmandu: The government is taking decision regarding sending a draft of a law against usury to parliament.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers this afternoon will give final shape to the draft of the related law and give approval for tabling it in the parliament, said Surya Kiran Sharma, the Press Coordinator of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

Sharma added that the Prime Minister had instructed before this to prepare the draft law for resolving the problem of people affected due to loan sharking and the draft has already been readied.

It is said preparations are being made to give approval to the Ministry concerned to register a bill against usury in the parliament as the government has already prepared the draft law to address the demands of the usury victims.

Sharma said the law related to this was being enacted through the fast track.

The government has also formed a committee to hold talks with and listen to the victims of loan sharking who have arrived in the federal capital itself and are waging a protest since some days.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rudra Devi Sharma is the convenor of the talks committee. The members of the committee include Under Secretary at the Ministry Dil Kumar Tamang, Under Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Umakanta Adhikari and Under Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Janga Bahadur Danga.

The police had stopped the loan sharking victims at Tangal when they were going towards the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar. T

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat has said PM Dahal will meet the usury victims today itself on the request of their representatives.
