Tamghas (Gulmi), April 23: Waste has started being sold at Tamghas, the district headquarters of Gulmi, as a way of waste management.

The Municipal Development and Clean Environment Committee has started selling the non-biodegradable waste from the waste collected in Tamghas, to Palpa Nepalese Waste Bank.

As per the agreement, plastic bottles are sold at Rs 10 per kg, Red Bull cans at Rs 80 per kg, HDP plastic at Rs 8 per kg, mineral water bottles at Rs 10 per kg, iron at Rs 15 per kg, glass at Rs 1 per kg.

Municipal Development and Environment Conservation Organisation collects waste from 1,765 houses of Resunga municipality-1, 2, 7, 8, 9 and some parts of wards no 4.

The Committee collects waste from these places except Saturday and takes to landfill site, Okhreni. Around two tonnes of waste—biodegradable and non-biodegradable are collected daily, added the Committee.

The Bank has recruited three human resources to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and it pays them as per the quantity of waste.

Committee Chairperson Ram Prasad Panthi shared that the Committee made Rs 20,000 income after selling four truck load of waste from Gulmi in a month.

It is stated that water sources are going to be clean with the start of sale of waste. Earlier, the waste collected there was burnt in Okhreni.
