Kathmandu, June 19: The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has launched a vaccination campaign against measles in high-prone districts.
Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, Head of the Child Health and Vaccination Branch of the Department of Health Services, said a ‘Measles Epidemic Response Vaccination Campaign’ is being carried out in nine districts where measles has been reported. Vaccination has started in Jajarkot, Surkhet, Kalikot, Mahottari, Baglung and Siraha are being covered this week.
Similarly, a vaccination campaign has already been conducted in Sarlahi, while only two people in Achham and Dailekh had measles, so there was no need to conduct an immediate vaccination campaign.
The vaccination campaign was conducted among children aged six months to 15 years, who are at high risk of measles. The vaccination was administered to the age group of six months to 20 years in Baglung and the age group of six months to 24 years in Jajarkot.
Dr Gautam said that the 24-year-old age group was vaccinated as measles was also seen in these two districts among those above 15 years of age. Efforts are being made to make children and communities safe by conducting a rapid vaccination campaign in the areas where the infection has spread.
