Bhadrapur (Jhapa), Aug 16: The onset of the rainy season in Jhapa has led to an increase in Japanese encephalitis (JE) cases, with a recent report confirming a new infection in Mechinagar.

The total cases of infection so far has reached 10 in the district. Five individuals have succumbed to the disease, including three men and two women.
According the Public health office, of the total infected, four are from Mechinagar, while others are from Haldibari, Bahradashi, Kachankawal, Birtamod, and Arjundhara.

Currently, two patients are undergoing treatment, and three have recovered and been discharged. Notably, one of the infected individuals is a seven-month-old baby.

Public Health Inspector Bishwanath Shrestha has emphasized the importance of preventive measures during the rainy season, particularly the elimination of stagnant water around homes, to mitigate the risk of JE transmission through mosquito bites.
