Baglung, Aug 21: Twenty-one naurs (Himalayan blue sheep) and 11 jharals (Himalayan Tahr) were hunted in Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, the only hunting reserve of Nepal, in one year.

Foreign poachers had paid more than 41.7 million in revenue to the Department of Wildlife Conservation to hunt naur and jharal through competition.

Dhorpatan is open twice in a year for hunting.
Reserve’s Ranger Sagar Subedi shared that the Reserve had given permission to hunt 11 naurs and eight jharals in the first hunting season (Asoj-Mangsir) of the last fiscal year where foreign poachers had hunted eight naurs and five jharals.

Similarly, permission was given to hunt 14 naurs and 10 jharals in second hunting season (Falgun-Baishakh). Thirteen naurs and six jharals were killed during the second hunting season.

Foreign hunters visit Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve for hunting through competition paying high fees. Hunters from America, Spain, Netherlands and Mexico as well as other countries come to Nepal for hunting naur and jharal.
