Tulsipur, Aug 25: The eye health programmes run in Rapti and Bahadurgunj under the Nepal Netrajyoti Sangha (NNJS) provided eye health services to over 338 thousand people in the last fiscal year, 2082/83.
The service were provided through various eye hospitals and treatment centres managed by NNJS. Total 14,477 persons underwent surgery for cataract, while 3,655 persons received surgeries for other problems.
Even the eye health camps and free checkup desks were conducted by the facilities. Total 97,669 persons were catered services for free of cost. Among the total, number of people receiving cataract surgery for free of cost stood 4,918.
Senior monitoring and evaluation officer at Eye Health Programme in Rapti and Bahadurgunj, Shalikram Gautam, informed that number of people receiving eye treatment was increasing of late.
The programme has continued public awareness drive in a bid to boost eye health. It has also been providing education on first aid relating to eye health. School teachers, women health volunteers, media persons, people’s representatives and women groups are engaged during the drive.
Officer Gautam added that the students in various schools had undergone eye check and information shared on eye health. The eye health services are provided regularly by the specialist doctors associated with NNJS.
