Parbat, Oct 4: A devastating landslide has left 300 families in the district without homes. In total, 170 houses have been completely destroyed, while another 131 have suffered partial damage.

According to the District Administration Office, six out of the seven municipalities in the area have been affected. The Jaljala rural municipality has been hit the hardest, with 113 houses damaged and 58 more at risk of landslides.

This has resulted in 171 families from Jaljala being displaced. Other municipalities have also seen significant damage: two houses in Kushma Municipality, 20 in Falebas Municipality, nine in Bihadi Rural Municipality, two in Mahashila Rural Municipality, and 15 in Modi Rural Municipality have all been completely wrecked.

Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri reported that 131 houses across the district have been partially damaged. The floods have also impacted five school buildings, an agricultural farm, a temple, a health center, and a police station. Additionally, the Maldhunga bridge on the Mid-hill highway and the suspension bridge connecting Parbat and Baglung have both sustained damage.

Rural roads in the district remain blocked. CDO Chhetri mentioned that it will take a few more days to reopen the Falebas-Bihadi and Lungkhudeurali-Huwas roads along the Kaligandaki highway.

In the meantime, various social organizations, including local administration, local bodies, and the Nepal Red Cross Society, are stepping up to help those affected by the floods by providing tents, food, utensils, clothing, and hygiene and health treatment supplies.
