Manang, Oct 24: Bodies of Japanese climbers, who went missing in course of scaling the Mount Gangapurna, have been found on Friday.
Japanese citizens, Hidesuke Taneishi and Tetsu Hashimoto, had disappeared while climbing the 7,455-meter Gangapurna Himal in Gyasyang Rural Municipality-6.
According to Chief District Officer Mukti Prasad Khanal, they had gone for the climb with a Nepali guide through Cosmo Adventure Company in Kathmandu and had been out of contact since October 15.
“After losing contact from around 7,050 meters, helicopters and rescue teams were deployed to search for them. During the search, the bags and climbing equipment they used were found,” said Khanal. “After continuous search, both bodies were found at about 6,300 meters in the southern part of Mount Gangapurna.”
CDO Khanal informed that preparations are being made to send the bodies to Kathmandu and that after autopsy will be handed over to the family in coordination with the Japanese Embassy in Nepal.
