Kathmandu, Nov 4 (RSS): Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is organizing a social media reel contest to promote the country’s cultural heritage and highlight the special bond between humans and dogs during the upcoming Tihar festival.
The NTB is set to organize the first-ever ‘Kukur Tihar Reel Contest 2026’ at the direction of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel.
The contest aims to introduce the cultural significance of ‘Kukur Tihar’ (Dog Tihar) festival to international audiences through creative digital storytelling, according to the NTB.
It also seeks to highlight country’s tradition of honouring animals and recognizing their role in human lives.
Kukur Tihar, observed on the second day of the five-day Tihar festival, is dedicated to dogs.
On this occasion, dogs are adorned with colourful garlands and tika and offered special food in recognition of their loyalty, companionship and protective role.
Participants can create original and engaging video reels related to the festival and post them on digital platforms such as Instagram or Facebook. The best entry will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000, said the NTB.
Furthermore, the video must be in English or include English subtitles or voiceovers to make them accessible to international audiences.
Participants are also required to use the prescribed hashtags and tag the Board’s official social media accounts.
The deadline for submissions is November 21. The Board may use the submitted videos for tourism promotion and digital communication.
The initiative is expected to encourage young content creators to showcase Nepal’s cultural traditions while promoting kindness towards animals and peaceful coexistence between humans and other living beings,
