Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs expressed his commitment to provide support from the government to the Manav Sewa Ashram’s campaign to provide guardianship and shelter to homeless street people. Inspecting the Manav Sewa Ashram at Nagarjun Municipality-1 in Kathmandu today, DPM Shrestha reaffirmed government’s support to the Manav Sewa Ashram to continue with its charitable works. “The way you have carved a niche for yourself as a different type of citizen through your deeds, I would like to extend my support to you to achieve the objectives of humanitarian service through deeds.”

Shrestha assured that he would hold discussion with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today about possible support from the government to the Manav Sewa Ashram. Stating that PM Dahal was also moving ahead embracing the good works being undertaken in the country, he said that the PM also held the view that the government should also acknowledge and support the good deeds. “I feel proud that there are organizations in the country like Manav Sewa Ashram that are wholly dedicated to human service,” he remarked. He viewed that it was not an easy task in today’s society plagued by consumerism to move ahead making human service the ultimate goal of one’s life.”

Similarly, senior journalist Rajendra Baniya, lauding the organization, said the Manav Sewa was fulfilling the responsibilities of the State to take care of the helpless and homeless citizens. Manav Sewa’s Chairperson Ramji Dahal shared that the organization had been delivering, as a supporter of the government, to make sure that none is left stranded in the street and live in the street or public places. The organization, currently having 23 ashrams in 19 districts across the country, aims to make the country free from street people within 2082 BS. At present, there are 1,600 rescued people being sheltered in various shelter homes of the Manav Sewa Ashram while it is estimated that there are around 400 people still living in the streets, informed Chairperson Dahal.
