Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ expressed the government’s commitment to swiftly move ahead with the goal to attain social justice, good governance and prosperity by bringing further reforms in economy. In his address to the 20th annual general meeting of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) on Friday, PM Dahal said some progresses have been made in regard to the industrial development including industrial zone and special economic zone. He stressed the need of public-private partnership towards reutilizing the existing infrastructures and developing further industrial infrastructures.

“The government has advanced reform works one after another towards creating environment conducive for industry. I am confident that the private sector is also working to increase investment and bring in foreign investment in a way to make some tangible results. I assure the private sector that the government would collaborate with the organizations such as CNI for economic reforms”, PM Dahal noted. The Prime Minister further said that efforts were made to include the economic reform measures suggested by CNI in the government’s policy and proigramme. The CNI has submitted a letter of interest for the construction and operation of Shaktikhor Industrial Corridor in Chitwan or Mayurdhap Industrial Zone in Makawanpur through PPP model, he said, adding the government was positive to allow the setup and operation of industrial corridors on PPP model.

He further shared that it was included in the government’s budget. PM pledged to expedite the implementation of this idea. “We need to lay emphasis on infrastructure development, industrial corridor development and agro modernization. Our progress towards production and employment growth is quite low which results in the rise in the import of agro products worth amounting to trillions”, he noted. The government was making preparation to develop an action plan for the implementation of the upcoming year budget, PM Dahal informed, urging CNI to provide full-fledged support in the course of implementing budget. PM Dahal went on saying that the government was advancing its policies and plans laying emphasis on structural transformation taking into consideration the need of increasing contributions of industry to the Gross Domestic Production
