The obstructed Narayangadh-Muglin road reopened on Friday evening after 28 hours. The road was disrupted by a landslide at Maurikhola. However, falling stones has continued posing a risk to running vehicles. A team of technicians and experts from the World Bank had earlier carried out a study warning that a part of the whole cliff just above the Maurikhola could break and fall that could trigger landslides up to 25,000 square metres.
“A landslip up to 10,000 square metres can be cleared by not disrupting traffic. But traffic should be halted to remove landslide more than that,” said chief divisional engineer for the division road office Ramesh Kumar Paudel. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal office had worked in the area in 2003 to prevent landslides.
According to engineer Shiva Khanal, a study carried out by geologists said the structure of a landslide has been formed in around 700 metres area risking landslide anytime. Charkilo and Atharakilo along the road are also at high risk of landslip, according to a study. Engineer at the division road office Sagar Karki said the area in the distance of 14, 15 and 16 kilometres from Narayangadh to Muglin, Seti Dovan, Mauripul, Kalikhola and Twin Khola are at risk of a landslide
