Kathmandu, Oct 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Naryan Kaji Shrestha, has stressed the need of strengthening internal security affairs for prosperity, progress and good governance in the nation. In his address to a programme organised today at the Nepal Police Headquarters on the occasion of the 68th Police Day, the Deputy Prime Minister said the realization of the rule of law has been possible in the country due to the roles of Nepal Police remaining as the major actor in maintaining internal security. He said the sacrifice of Nepal police employees who are always stationed for the safety of citizens by keeping individual interests and familial responsibilities secondary is the inspiration for each generation.

The DPM and Home Affairs Minister said the Nepal police is fulfilling its role assigned it by the State to the best of its ability despite the availability of limited resources. “Each member in the Nepal Police is performing confidently to overcome each and every adversity faced by the citizens and the State,” the Home Minister said. The Home Minister wanted the Nepal Police to prepare itself ever-ready for combating new methods of crime supported by new innovations and the advanced technology and for preventing potential offences ahead. Stating that impartial investigations would serve justice to the affected, leading to an end to impunity, he said, “There is no room for doubting over the police investigation.

I am confident that the Nepal Police never makes any compromises under any circumstances regarding its commitments to fair investigation.” On the occasion, the Home Minister remembered all those police employees attaining martyrdom while serving for the nation wished for speedy recovery of the injured ones. “The government is always with the families of martyr polices during the painful moments.” Inspector General of Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar directed the police employees to focus on establishing the institution as a citizen-friendly entity. “Police performance is adjudged in transparency, accountability, citizens’ acceptance, protection of human rights and dignity,” he said. On the occasion, the Minister laid a wreath on a martyr police memorial pillar based in the police headquarters.
