Kathmandu, Oct 30: The USAID Nepal recently organised a workshop on Political Process Monitoring (PPM) for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Kathmandu. Altogether 16 people including six women participated in the workshop where they learnt about PPM, its types and international practices. Besides learning about different types of PPM such as election monitoring, legislative monitoring and budget monitoring, the participants acquired a knowledge about ways to develop and implement a PPM plan and collect and analyse data, said USAID Nepal.
PPM is the systematic observation and the analysis of the political process including elections, legislation, and other government activities. CSOs play a vital role in PPM by making governments accountable and ensuring transparent and inclusive political process.
According to the participants, the workshop was fruitful in shedding light on the importance of PPM.
“Understanding the importance of PPM, we have been doing it in our own way, but without following a specific method. The workshop helped me understand the significance of a structured approach to achieve the desired outcomes.”
USAID Nepal is committed to partnering with CSOs to play a more active role in PPM. By strengthening the capacity of CSOs, USAID is helping to promote transparency and accountability in the political process and build a more democratic Nepal.
