Kathmandu, Dec 19: Kathmandu roads are filled with potholes and cracks. Every time the minister joins the line ministry, they seem to show their concern about constructing and repairing roads. In this regard, they tend to show their concern by directing concerned bodies to do the needful. But when it comes to the implementation, things are not in the right place.
Upon assuming office around nine months ago, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala directed that the Kathmandu roads should be free of potholes and cracks within one month. But around four months have elapsed, the roads are in the same condition.
Notably, the roads in busy areas like Ring Road, Baneshwor, Chabahil and Bauddha are filled with potholes. Condition of the roads goes worse when it rains. They turn muddy and are waterlogged when it rains making traffic impassable.
However, the Road Division Office, Kathmandu claimed that the roads except three road sections within its scope of responsibility were being repaired. The Nepal Electricity Authority has carried out work of undergrounding wires in the three road sections. Repair of roads including Sangrila Hotel-Ranibari, Lainchaur-Maharajgunj road, Lainchaur-Balaju, Tripureshwor-Kalanki and some other feeder roads has been completed, it said.
Lack of coordination among the Melamchi Drinking Water Project, the NEA and Department of Roads has caused the problem, it added.
